Frequently asked questions

Straight answers — for donors who give and the organizations that raise. Every question links straight here, so share away.

For donors

Giving questions, answered plainly.

How much of my donation actually reaches the cause?
Every kobo is accounted for before you pay. At checkout you'll see the full breakdown — platform fee, payment processing fee, and what the campaign receives. If you tick "cover the fees", the organization receives exactly the amount you intended to give — 100% of it. No surprises after the fact.
Do I get a receipt?
Yes — automatically, for every donation, including repeat gifts. Each receipt has a number, arrives by email, lives in your dashboard, and can be verified by anyone on our public receipt-verification page using the receipt number and a one-time code. Receipts are available in English and Hausa.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — within 30 days of a completed donation, requested straight from your dashboard. Duplicates and wrong amounts are the clearest cases. You can follow your refund's status like a delivery, and disputes follow a defined path with real deadlines.
What happens to my personal data?
It's yours. Export everything in one click, or request deletion and we complete it within Nigeria's data-protection timelines — keeping only the financial records the law requires, with your identity removed from them. You also decide which channels organizations may use to reach you.
Will charities start spamming my WhatsApp?
No. You choose the channels, you set frequency limits — including "never" — and one word (STOP) ends everything. Every message also lands in your Spendhood inbox, so nothing depends on your personal apps.
What happens when a campaign reaches its target?
It completes automatically. Finished campaigns stop accepting donations, so your money never sits in a completed appeal — it goes to a live need. You can see which campaigns are still open, in real time.
Can I give from outside Nigeria?
Yes. Give in USD, GBP, EUR, CAD or AUD — you'll see the naira estimate before you pay, and the campaign's progress updates with your gift at the rate captured when you gave.

For nonprofit organizations

What nonprofit organizations ask before they start.

When do donations reach our account?
As each donation arrives — settled directly into your own bank account or your own payment-provider account. No platform wallet holding your money, no minimum threshold to unlock it, and nothing waits for a target to be reached. Every transaction is itemized to the kobo in your ledger, with export for reconciliation.
Do we need a website?
No. Your Spendhood pages are a complete online presence — campaigns, live progress, updates, your team, and donations in one place. If you already have a website, embeddable widgets and a WordPress plugin put live campaigns and working donation forms on it in minutes.
What does Spendhood cost?
A platform fee on donations — no subscriptions, no setup fees. Donors can optionally cover the fees so you receive their full intended amount. Communication tools include free allocations, with top-ups if you outgrow them. See Pricing for the current model.
How do you keep fake campaigns out?
Before a single naira moves, every nonprofit organization is vetted — CAC/RC registration verified, then a review before going live. Verified organizations carry badges on their campaigns, and every receipt is publicly checkable. When donors stop fearing scams, honest nonprofits win.
What about our SCUML and NDPA obligations?
Spendhood tracks your SCUML status and expiry, flags the reports your activity triggers, and prepares them for filing with deadlines visible — no silent penalties. NDPA duties run the same way: data-subject requests (export, correction, deletion) arrive with a 30-day clock and a full audit trail.
Can our whole team use it safely?
Yes — with real roles (admin, finance, content, donor care, viewer), two-factor authentication, and a record of who did what. Sensitive actions like refunds require two different people, so no single person moves money alone.
Can we receive donations from the diaspora?
Yes — donors give in USD, GBP, EUR, CAD or AUD. They see the naira estimate before paying; your campaign totals stay in naira; and refunds use the original exchange rate, so nobody loses on the round trip.
